The School of Arts and Humanities at MATS University caters to an outlook in Mass Communication and English Literature that equip a student to meet the challenges of their accomplishments. The syllabi are so designed that they amalgamate with the courses for different Schools of Studies at our University. Course specific syllabi have – Literature, Journalism, Project Report Writing, Article writing, Presentation, Feature Writing, and Interview Skills.
The Department provides ample opportunities to sharpen the skill of students by the activities conducted under Literary Club to develop a focused approach. The Mass Communication topic prepares the students to work in twentieth century media. Graduates will be proficient in areas ranging from media ethics, media policy, to writing for advertisement, public relation, print media, electronic media, production skills and also Media Internship. They will be committed to providing the public with media content that meets local and regional needs and global in outlook and standard. The students graduating from MATS in B.A.(Hons) English with Mass Communication will be able to identify and administer various media platform to communicate with diverse audiences on wide range of topics. Analyze the complexities of information gathering, evaluate the credibility of sources and ensure the highest possible reliability of information provided to the public. Mass Communication is a vast field covering many areas under it. Some of the areas for the employment are print journalism, electronic media, online media, advertising and public relations.
If the students love the written and spoken word, the structure of language and literature, then M.A.English is for them. A comprehensive and stimulating introduction to English Language and Literature, it investigates how the English Language is used in a variety of global contexts, and explores literature from different historical periods and in diverse cultural settings. A student will explore writing and speech in a wide range of forms, and will develop skills in the interpretation of literary and non-literary texts. English Literature covers key authors and texts from ancient, middle Ages to the present. A student continues to develop his skills in methodology, although these will become more research oriented in order to offer full support for his/her dissertation. In addition, a student will be offered further opportunities for specialization through a range of options that are based upon the research interests. It also offers the opportunity to investigate specific themes such as gender, race and politics. Unusually for an English Literature and Mass Communication degree program, we offer the opportunity to undertake a Professional Training Placement year, subject to availability; a placement will help to enhance student’s employability by giving them experience in degree-related professions such as publishing, marketing, the media industries, and teaching, creative writing or arts administration. Teaching of our syllabus is both stimulating and encouraging. A student will experience a wide range of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. As a student in MATS, you will be introduced to an exciting and challenging environment that combines conventional technical teaching with a wide range of opportunities for you to engage with a vibrant research culture and arts activities. The course structure provides the students with a wide range of valuable skills to prepare you for a variety of careers. Mass Communication graduates are perhaps best qualified for such professions as journalism, marketing, publishing, teaching, writing and arts administration. They also attractive employers in management, business, communications and the media. Our programs will provide the students with essential knowledge and skills, as well as offering informed support and guidance to assist them in studies.
